Overview The phase of support activities concerning the Great Hanshin/Awaji Earthquake has changed from the emergency relief to reconstruction and development. For that, long-term effective supports are needed as ever. Therefore, we need to establish a network to exchange information among the people in the disaster stricken sites, those who support them, i.e., the volunteers who are directly and indirectly assisting the quake survivors, people from non-profit, non-governmental organizations and business people interested in philanthropic activities, mass and small circulation media people, and the government people too. InterVnet, an Internet based communication network, is established to provide an information sharing system which connects large and small scale PC networks in Japan and all around the world through the Internet. We hope that InterVnet will be useful in making volunteering activities more effective and smooth. Also, we are hoping that InterVnet will be a communication tool to be used by citizens and organizations to exchange daily as well as emergency information in order to promote non-profit, non-governmental, and voluntary activities in Japan and elsewhere, and also in order to start building a citizen-based society. Ikuyo Kaneko Coordinator of InterVnet 2. New office of InterVnet Up to this point, we have had two offices, one in Osaka and another in Tokyo for InterVnet.
