This compendium codifies these techniques, explains their production and effects, cites representative scores, and provides numerous example from an international selection of composers. Part One considers techniques and procedures that apply to all instruments; Part Two takes up idiomatic techniques with specific instruments in all orchestral categories. This monumental survey is essential for any music library or serious musician

The Franco Brothers, Carlos and Bismark, front an elevenpiece orchestra, Orquesta Actualidad , playing contemporary Salsa dance music. Born in Managua, Nicaragua, land of music and poetry, the brothers later moved to California where they led rock and roll bands in their teens. Their true voice has been found in Salsa and the Francos have shared stages with such luminaries as Luis Enrique, Celia Cruz, and Willie Colon. Their first CD, released in 1992, climbed the upper levels of the Billboard charts. A combination of formal music training plus their emotional feel for the culture has produced a hot band playing th3e latest sounds in the Salsa tradition. Back to the Home Page.

In a sold-out show at the U.S. Air Arena, Clapton entranced the crowd with his legendary guitar work and vocals so passionate that it would've made the people he covered proud. Clapton has been known to have once said that he could never sing the blues as well as a black person. Clearly, his In the Cradle album, and the tour supporting it, indicate that comment

Here's what those in-the-know have to say: "I had to call everybody I knew and tell them to get it." - Tony Bennett "It's not often that a critic manages to redefine an entire field, but that's just what Will Friedwald accomplishes with Jazz Singing, a survey of vocalists from Bessie Smith to Bobby McFerrin. If music like Nat King Cole's or Peggy Lee's holds any charm for you, then Friedwald's book will prove indispensible. There is simple no better guide to the art of jazz singing." - Entertainment Weekly "A hip, informative look at the men
